6 Tips to Become a Better DJ…NOT

[divider]THE FIFTH TIP TO BECOME A BETTER DJ[/divider]

#5 Stand on the booth.

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t’s not enough that you are already the center of attention.  For people to respect you as a DJ, you’ll want them looking up to you.  This tip only works in certain situations and requires some common sense.  Before attempting to hop up on the table, platform or the piece of plywood spread between two speakers, you’ll want to make absolutely sure that it can support you.  This is especially important if you are all hopped up on Red Bull and plan on jumping up and down like a mad man.

Once you’ve checked your surroundings and are confident you’ve found something that can support you standing, climb on up.  You’ll get a wicked crowd response and feel like you’re king of the world.

If you really want to get fancy with it, combine this move with some of the other tips in this list for maximum effectiveness.

#6 If all else fails, touch knobs.

[dropcap size=small]Y[/dropcap]ou’ve seen enough famous DJs flawlessly execute this maneuver, so you should know exactly what to do.  When you’ve completed the above steps and still have remaining time before your next synced track is due to be faded in, you’ll want to show the crowd that your keen ear knows exactly what equalizer adjustments need to be made.

You’ll need all hands on deck to really display your capabilities, so if you are a DJ duo or trio, everyone is gonna need a knob of some sort.  Now here is the tricky part — touch the knob and pull your hands away quickly while appearing to twist the knob.  If you move the knob a little, that’s acceptable, but it works best if you don’t move the knob at all.  Just touch and release.

You’ll probably want to take some time to practice this in front of a mirror before taking it public.
