The Red Bull Music Academy has been pairing music legends and emerging beatsmiths since 1998 in cities such as Berlin, Cape Town, Melbourne, Barcelona, São Paulo, London, New York City, Tokyo, and this year it will touch down in Paris.

WHAT IS THE RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY?

It is an unrivaled institution that has proven to unearth talent that goes on to shape our musical landscape.  Every year, Red Bull Music Academy brings together 60 carefully selected producers, vocalists, beat-makers, instrumentalists and DJs. They will be invited to attend what many artists have claimed as a ‘life-changing’ experience that includes intimate lecture sessions with the worlds’ leading artists, music collaborations in an expansive, custom-fitted complex of creative and studio spaces, that are available for use 24 hours a day. Then there are the crazy events and parties that happen every night.

HOW ARE PARTICIPANTS SELECTED?

The 60 academy participants are picked because of their musical uniqueness, outstanding creativity, cultural diversity and highly relevant contribution to their respective scene. They embody a true artist attitude that emphasizes factors such as being innovative, creative, individual, self-confident, non-conformist, genuine – which allows them to identify the project’s true objectives. The only other requirement is being 20 years old before October 2015.

WHO HAS PARTICIPATED?

More than 1,500 musical luminaries have participated in past incarnations of the Red Bull Music Academy.  Former lecturers include Just Blaze, Erykah Badu, Richie Hawtin, A-Trak, Giorgio Moroder, Chuck D, Steve Reich, Sly & Robbie, Bernie Worrell, Mark Ronson, M.I.A., Q-Tip, Hot Chip, MF Doom, Ryuichi Sakamoto, RZA, Stephen O’ Malley, Gilberto Gil, and pioneering synth inventors Bob Moog, Tom Oberheim, Don Buchla, Roger Linn, Dave Smith, amongst many others.  (As always, Red Bull Music Academy lectures are then available as archived video content on our website.)  Plenty Academy alumni have gone on to become true figureheads of their scenes like LA pioneering hiphop producer and DJ Tokimonsta, experimental electronic music producer and beat music innovator Flying Lotus; Hudson Mohawke, the Scottish producer behind the beats of Drake and Kanye West; Russian DJ, producer and label head Nina Kraviz; LA soul singer Aloe Blacc; Mexico’s Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Natalia Lafourcade; and the UK’s own Katy B, who introduced the whole world to the sound of London’s dubstep, funky and garage.

INCENTIVE

If you are looking for a little motivation to submit an application or even find out more info, the Red Bull Music Academy has put together some awesome packages to give away.  These packages include complete info on the application process as well as two CDs featuring “a selection of tunes recorded at the Red Bull Music Academy Tokyo” which took place last year.  This just goes to show that the Red Bull Music Academy doesn’t forget about you once you’ve left the academy.  These CDs alone reach thousands and thousands of producers, musicians, vocalists, and DJs, so your name gets out there.

If you want to get ahold of one of these packages, they are available on a first come, first serve basis.  You can grab one at the Red Bull Music Academy lectures in Seoul — Feb. 6th (Brenmar) and Feb. 14th (Todd Edwards).  If you are really interested in getting ahold of one before then, send us a message at content@electrow.com!
